| Tasting Notes: | The nose combines rose petals, cassis, blueberries, freshly crushed berries, minerals, and intricate spice. The silken palate reflects the nose, with acidity and fine tannins giving shape to the cherry and black raspberry flavors. Delicious paired with Lamb, rich pastas and steak with mushroom sauce. |
| Ratings: | 93 Points - Attractive, feathered fuchsia hue. Smoky cured ham aromas laced with mineral and cherry accents. Very fine sandpaper tannins with youthful, tart cherry fruit. Peppery, flinty close needs time to soften. (Wine News - August/September 2008) |
| Vineyard Notes: | Jim St. Clair planted his 10-acre Pinot Noir vineyard in the late 1960s; Acacia has made a St. Clair Pinot Noir every year since 1979. The St. Clair Vineyard typically produces wines with floral, cherry and raspberry-scented aromatics. At its best, St. Clair is one of the most age worthy Pinot Noirs in the country. Jim attributes his success to dry farming, a practice that forces the roots to be efficient in their pursuit of water deep within the soil. |
| Winemaker Notes: | Notable for the presence of heavy spring rains, the 2006 growing season was desirable for grape-growing in the Carneros appellation. The record high temperatures in mid-July contributed to vine development, and allowed some of the vines that were a bit behind the average annual development to mature as needed. The weather during the harvest season was relatively cool – many days in the 80’s – allowing for the methodical hand-harvesting of grapes. |
